To calculate your Expression Number (also called Destiny Number) in numerology, you use the full name as it appears on your birth certificate, including first, middle, and last names.
STEP-BY-STEP: HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR EXPRESSION NUMBER
STEP 1: Assign Numbers to Each Letter Using the Pythagorean System
Letter | Number |
A, J, S | 1 |
B, K, T | 2 |
C, L, U | 3 |
D, M, V | 4 |
E, N, W | 5 |
F, O, X | 6 |
G, P, Y | 7 |
H, Q, Z | 8 |
I, R | 9 |
STEP 2: Convert Each Name in Your Full Birth Name to Numbers
Break down each first, middle, and last name separately.For example, let’s use the name:
JANE MARIE DOE
JANEJ = 1, A = 1, N = 5, E = 5 → 1 + 1 + 5 + 5 = 12 → 1 + 2 = 3
MARIEM = 4, A = 1, R = 9, I = 9, E = 5 → 4 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 = 28 → 2 + 8 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1
DOED = 4, O = 6, E = 5 → 4 + 6 + 5 = 15 → 1 + 5 = 6
STEP 3: Add the Totals from Each Name
From the example above:
First name = 3
Middle name = 1
Last name = 6
Total: 3 + 1 + 6 = 10 → 1 + 0 = Expression Number = 1
MASTER NUMBERS EXCEPTION
If you get a master number (11, 22, or 33) during the final reduction, do not reduce it further unless needed for practical use (some systems treat 11/22/33 both as master and reduced forms).
IMPORTANT RULES
Use your full legal birth name, even if you no longer use it.
Don’t include Jr., Sr., III, etc.
Do not use nicknames or married names unless you're doing current name numerology (not expression).
